The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham - Book Review

A strange meteor shower covers the sky with green splotches after a man eating, genetically engineered plant ravages the world. Strangely, everyone who saw the meteor shower suddenly went blind. Several people remained with their sight, and they naturally became the leaders in this devastating new world.

The Day of the Triffids is an amazing book! It highlights how much the human race depends on its sight, and if it is taken away, then there are other creatures that are more than willing to take our title of most dominant animal. This novel also shows how different situations create different systems of belief, and customs. This is a world that has no room for compassion, and sacrifice is an everyday need.

The conscience is deeply delved into, showing how the main character has to leave thousands of blind people to their fate if he wishes to survive. The Day of the Triffids really is a great insight into the flaws in the universal human condition.
